Chippokes State Park

Surry, VA

7-3-17

The weather was questionable for thunderstorms and definitely hot, so I decided go to Chippokes State Park today. The park is in Surry, Virginia (just past the Surry Nuclear Power Plant) along the James River. It was exceptionally calm today. The James is usually pretty windy and choppy.

This property was originally a plantation back in the day and still has a lot of that history on the property. But I spent most of the time walking along the beach (duh).

There is some cliff erosion and you can see layers and layers of shells from what likely was a seabed a long, long, long time ago. There was tons of driftwood along the shoreline. I came across some tidepools with lots of littel fish swimming around.

The property is a still an active farm and the fields were full of baby soybean plants.

It's a pretty cool place.
