ALASKA
Denali - Colors of Sunset Photography Tour
July 2023
Once I got settled into the resort at McKinley Chalet and had dinner, it was time for an excursion. I chose to book a photography tour chasing the midnight sun. The tour started at 9pm and lasted until midnight. With the sun rising at 4am and setting at 11:45pm (almost midnight), there will be over 19.5 hours of daylight today. This is the Alaska summer. Land of the Midnight Sun.
The guide gave us personalized photography advice to capture the dramatic sunset colors in Denali during the prolonged “magic hour.” We saw the beautiful alpenglow on the mountains and spectacular cloudscapes. The sunset colors last for an extended period of time, giving us ample opportunity to move to several locations for instruction and experimentation with different compositions, focal lengths, and exposure settings.
We did see a moose with her yearling right at the end of the excursion but with the light fading, I wasn't able to get a picture. We also saw a porcupine along the side of the road. It was really cool.

This was a long but amazing day!!!
Tomorrow, we will be touring Denali National Park & Preserve on a special tour.
