Saturday, May 5, 2018 -  North Landing River - Pungo Ferry Road

We've been having unseasonably warm temperatures lately but it's been super windy too. But today the winds diminished a bit but the temps stayed high, so I decided to head out and get in the first kayaking trip of the year.

As is our tradition, I headed over to Pungo Ferry Road and launched from there. The winds were about 8-10 mph from the northwest. This would portend the temperatures dropping significantly as the day progressed.

There were a few powerboaters and jetskis out and a few other kayakers, but it wasn't busy.

There were lots of fish that I heard (and saw) trashing about on the edge of the marsh reeds. I'm assuming that they were spawning. Maybe Jamie can identify the the fish by the fins I was able to capture in a picture.

There also was a very cool sun rainbow. I could see it really well with my polarized sunglasses, but it was really faint without them. But I was able to enhance the pictures a bit so it shows up.

It's still early Spring, so the reeds and grass still have a very wintry (read: drab) appearance. And it was cloudy, so the sky didn't provide a whole lot of contrast. BUT it was GREAT to be out on the water.

And I did have some Lego passengers helping to paddle along the way. :D

There were a lot of small planes (some bi-planes) constantly flying above. Sometimes in pairs, other times singly. I wonder if there was an event happening at the aviation museum up the road. They have a grass airstrip there.

Just a short trip to make sure I remember how to do this. :D And everything turned out well. I was trying out some different things with the GoPros. Some worked okay .... others not as well. We'll see how it all looks on video.

2 hours and 15 minutes on the water and 3.7 miles on the GPS. Scroll below the pictures to see the track map.

GoPro video to follow.

beachcombing is an attitude, an expressive metaphor for reality, an attraction and adventure, that ranges from the eager inquisitiveness of youth to the more philosophical approach that comes from gaining and spending, and being spent, by the fortunes of life, like the flotsam and jetsam along the shore.
