Sunday, May 25, 2014 - Pungo Ferry - North Landing River
Shakedown Cruise
First trip of the season. Needing to get the cobwebs out and shake off the winter's rust, we went out for a short trip.
We launched from Old Pungo Ferry Road. It was a a little windy on the main river, but once we got back into Alton's Creek, it wasn't too bad. Of course the "Kate Rule" regarding wind was in force. The "Kate Rule" states that if the wind is in our faces when we go out, it will also be in our face when we come back. :) But it actually died down a little on the way back.
The first trip of the season is also about rediscovering muscles that have gone unused over the winter. Shoulders, back, forearms.
We went around the north oxbow at Pungo Ferry and up the creek for a bit. It's nice to smell the air and feel the breeze. Ahhhhhh.
The water in the river was at about a mid-level. The river gauge app indicated that it was just under 2 feet.
There were some powerboats and jetskis out on the river, but not as many as you might expect on a holiday weekend. There was a fairly large yacht headed north coming under the bridge when we were crossing back to the launch point. You can see the big splashdown as I went over the wake that it created.
One hour and 34 minutes on the water. 3.2 miles on the GPS. Not too sore. Got a little bit of sun on our arms.

Happy Memorial Day.
