Saturday, June 2, 2018 -  North Landing River - Spitzli Creek

Got out on the water today. The weather lately has been ridiculous and unstable. Between it being in the upper 90s the last week of May to tons of rain and thunderstorms, it hasn't been great for kayaking. But today was good ... at least in the morning.  We would see thunderstorms later in the day, but the middle of the day was great for kayaking. I was a little bit hot, but not too bad. The humidity was down from what it has been the last few days.

We went out at Pungo Ferry and with the slight wind coming from the south, we decided to go south (in order to have any wind at our backs  heading back in. We just wanted to get a short trip in to work on getting back into paddling form and also to test out some things on the kayaks.

I was able to take the small DJI Spark drone and launch and land from my hand while on the kayak. It worked out great. I was able to get some good pictures and a little bit of video. I think it will be great this season to add imagery from above to our trips.

The Osprey are heavily defending their nests. There were birds on both the nests we passed. They are never very happy for anyone to get very close. The pickerel weed (purple flowers) are starting to bloom in the marshes. The trees now have all their foliage. The water was pretty calm ... only a slight breeze most of the time. As usual, there were plenty of powerboats and jetskis out on the river. We saw some guys fishing, but they said they hadn't caught much.

1 hour and 51 minutes on the water and 1.8 miles on the GPS. Scroll below the pictures to see the track map.
