Saturday, July 3, 2021 - West Neck Creek

For the first day of the long weekend, I  went kayaking today on West Neck Creek in Virginia Beach. There was no one manning the store to take the launch fee ($3 for kayaks), bu they had a dropbox next to the door. The parking area was really full with boat trailers, but I was able to get a spot right next to the kayak launching area.

It was a bit windy in places on the creek, which can make paddling challenging, but once I got up into the smaller (protected) creeks, it was calm and peaceful. Saw a bunch of osprey protecting their nests and hunting fish. They were making quite the racket.

I saw a lot of Great Blue Herons and egrets. And lots of people out in kayaks (which is unusual for this location). There were lots of people out in boats fishing. The temps were very moderate today so it was very pleasant on the water.

Despite the wind, it was a good day on the water.

2 hours 33 minutes on the water and 4.7 miles on the GPS. Scroll below the pictures to see the track map.

beachcombing is an attitude, an expressive metaphor for reality, an attraction and adventure, that ranges from the eager inquisitiveness of youth to the more philosophical approach that comes from gaining and spending, and being spent, by the fortunes of life, like the flotsam and jetsam along the shore.
