Great American West Adventure
US Women's National Team Soccer
September 2017
Dick's Sporting Goods Park - Commerce City, Coloradao
The last part of our trip was going to a soccer game between the United States Women's National soccer team and the New Zealand National soccer team. When we found out that the national soccer team was going to play a game against New Zealand right in Denver, we extended our trip by a day.
It was a really cool environment at the stadium. Over 17,000 fans in attendance. It was cool to see all sorts of people. Of course, young girls but also young boys. Families. Men. Women. Old. Young. The majority dressed in National Team jerseys or t-shirts.
This game was Kelley O'Hara's (#5) 100th appearance (known as a "cap" in National Team parlance) and she was honored before the game. And as is tradition, she was the team captain for the game.
The captain for the New Zealand team was Ali Riley (#7) who was Kelley O'Hara's teammate at Stanford University.
Julie Ertz (#8) was on fire and scored two goals within 8 minutes in the first half. New Zealand came back and scored a goal in the second half. And then Alex Morgan (#13) scored a great goal off a fantastic cross from O'Hara to cap off the game.
